Congratulations to SPA’s Etsy team member Kate Hust, on being selected today’s Featured Potter at Team Studio Potter Archive. What an upbeat way to begin the new month!
As it happens, I have wanted to record some of my thoughts on a specific subject and have been seeking something unique and beautiful to gratify this exercise.
Well, what did I find? (And thanks to Adele Bee Ann for buzzing in on it too.) I found the above 5 ¾” x 4 ¼, approximately 1 1/4 inch thick, handmade blank journal by Michigan potter, Kate Hust.
Kate uses quality, creamy colored, acid free paper — 60 pages (or 120 pages when considering double sides). The journal is constructed with a twice-fired stoneware front cover, leather back, and is bound with braided waxed linen threads.
The stoneware cover shows an actual impression, one made with a true grape leaf. The word “Beloved”, taken from Isaiah 5 [1], also adorns the front cover. Writing in this well crafted journal has inspired my thoughts to wander and imagine what it would be like to handle the early Coptic codices.
By the way Kate, I have now begun filling the pages of my new journal, and as I write this new chapter, I promise to grow good grapes in my vineyard.

[1] Let me sing for my Beloved, my love song concerning his vineyard: My Beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill.
